Hopefully we can save something good out of this discussion.

I am close to dropping this and talisman making. I can't get skilled up. I send my sorceress anything that can be salvaged, but most of the stuff is now above her 17 skill. I can't find enough stuff to raise my skill and as a result my talisman making is even lower.

Try purchasing the lowest cost piece of salvageable Renown gear that your Salvager can get. So no Accessories (Jewelry, Belt) or (I think) Cloaks, though there isn't one for the T1 stuff.

Dis combo of Salvaging and Talisman Makin is real hards ta get started in. Ta helps me skill ups in dose skills, me wents and did da tier 1 chapturs fer da udder pairins. Dis gots me enough stuffs ta skill ups on.

When me reached chapturs 7 and 8 in tier 2 was when it started ta gets easier, cause me wuz gettin more drops dat me coulds break downs.

But's if joo nots want ta sticks wit it, me nots gunna complain, dat be less competition fer me. :D

For now i got around 118 in salvaging, i tried on a level 29 items and it worked.

As for my talismant making skill its at 17 and i started to browse the auctions to get lower level tier items ot reach 25.

I got LOADS of mats for the rest i think but if you feel like giving it up be my guest :)

Running PQs seems to yield a lot of greens for salvaging. I got at least 3 drops doing a single pq in chapter 8 (greed rolls only).

Cap should be about 200.

If you're having a problem keeping salvaging up to snuff... go back and farm Ch 1 PQs.

If you check the merchants around the various areas (see them all the time in chapter 12) you can buy salvagable stuff for 6 silver. They still gave my salvager skill around 75ish and the cheaper ones which were only a couple copper each took me to 50ish.

Let me know if this is another viable option:

I started salvaging a little late in the game. I bought the cheap stuff off the apprentice renown merchant and got up to the upper 50's. I've tried purchasing salvagable items off the other merchants for 6 silver, but can't seem to get any higher. My small stockpile of level 21-23 items waiting to be salvaged doesn't do me much good at the moment.

Rather than waste money at the auctioneer, would it make sense to pay a guildmate to go grab some level 15-17 items from the T2 renown merchant? If I can get my salvaging skill equivalent to my adventuring level, I should be able to support myself after that.

Rimalder -- Check the guild vault regularly. People are always dumping gear in there. Some is lower level.

Purchased Renown gear is Bind on Pickup.

Why can't you buy it yourself? Unless your Renown Rank is not high enough, it is sold in the Viper Pit as well as in the Lakes.

Sindrak -- Sorry, but I don't seem to get 125 skill curios anymore. They are mostly 150.

No problem, I went ahead and used 100 skill Curios to get to 150 TM. I prefer to use the right skill level as white items of a given skill level are better even then purple of the next lowest (at least as far as TM secondary ingredients go), but I hadn't had any luck finding people and I wasn't willing to pay the prices on the AH.

Hopefully I can feed you 150's then.

I can go try the Viper Pit. However, what I was finding from the Renown merchants was too high. They weren't offering me any of the lower items. Not a big deal; I found some relatively cheap items at the Auctioneer and got myself up to being able to salvage level 19 items.

I was reading through some outside forums and found an interesting formula to determine how salvage level relates to item level:

Skill level = (5*green item level) - 25
Skill level = (5*blue item level) +5
Skill level = (5*purple level) + 25

It seems to be a fairly accurate estimation since I was needing about 70 salvaging skill to break down a level 19 item.

Thanks, though I think I'm good on 150 and 175 Curios thanks to Slaight and Gold Dust thanks to whoever contributes it the Guild Vault. For some reason I just didn't have much in the way of 125's.

Skill level = (5*green item level) - 25
Skill level = (5*blue item level) +5
Skill level = (5*purple level) + 25

That is possibly about right, but it must cap itself at a certain point as it isn't possibly to get the 225 skill that this formula would say a purple Rank 40 item would require as far as I know. 210 is theoretically possible with the Artisan's Gift buff, but I'm not high enough to test if that can actually boost you over 200.

Hrm, I'm just starting to mess with Salvaging as well and I'm having a lot of mixed results. I got a few trinkets, but not enough to really get going with Talisman Making. I have a ton of 20-27 level gear stuff I can salvage, but I'm only at about 70 Salvaging right now. Looks like it's going to cost a lot for this tradeskill. I'm not exactly loving that.

I'll bet this stems from a problem with Mythic's system. Probably the 150-200 range caps for scavengers somewhere around L30, and there is only a narrow window of salvage skill (actually, mob levels) where you can get 125 skill items. So that would lead to an overall bottleneck.

Just Salvaged a 37 Blue at 176 skill (succeeded too, but I'm not sure that skill affects how often you get trash rather than a fragment), so that formula set is off.
