View Full Version : Building a community for Aion

With the last "closed beta weekend" coming up, I think now is a good time to start working to organize a community presence in Aion. I am looking to see what guilds intend to operate in Aion come launch, and on what side. Once we know what guilds we have, we can start thinking about arranging to land on the same server if people are interested.
Ravens of War will be playing Asmodian.

Not sure about some others in my guild, but I have no intention of touching that game myself. Ill be sticking with war, and if it gets to slow here ill probably just go back to wow or daoc, maybe try out lotro or something.

The Unholy Legion has been recrutiing in the beta's though only on 1 server, if I would have had the manpower at the time i probably would have split em on all the different servers to recruit heh.
I think for Open beta it would be good for us all to choose a server, it might be a little much to ask everyone to move to one server ( assuming they are on a different one) for the last closed beta.
* we have about 20 people right now that are in the guild for the Aion chapter, its not much but its a start*

Aishrod -- Yes, I don't think there is any point in worrying about organizing for this weekend. We could try to hit the same server for Open Beta if you like. If the AionRP folks name a server for Open Beta, I'll try to go there. Otherwise, my guess is that Ravens will stick with Vaizel for Open Beta simply out of inertia. We don't really care that much. These server names are just alphabet soup to us right now. But we will say something definite in advance, in case folks want to try and do OB on the same server.

Good luck folks.
I doubt you will see us there as a guild unless it turns out to be the end-all-be-all of MMOs a few months down the road. There doesn't seem to be all that much interest right now.
You may see some of our members folded into other guilds or looking for a home.
Personally, I am going to give Champions Online a shot for some casual gaming and maybe go back to Camelot (after they launch Ywain) since some interesting things have been happening over there.

Speaking of Champ online I heard it has a lot of customization good graphics, but poorly optomized, horrible balance and shallow gameplay. I am hoping this isn't true as I do like games to succeed. I iwll be in the Open beta for it ( since it strarts next week ) to test it out myself though

Not sure if you all were aware of this but PT roleplayers who frequent the Warhammer Alliance forum are planning on a server. Here's a link to a discussion:

Thanks! I knew about aionroleplayers, and I knew about the "massive thread" on WHA/PT forums. I hadn't noticed this thread though. However, it doesn't seem to be guild oriented.
So what other guilds are setting up shop in Aion?

That Aion thread at Warhammer Alliance is pretty freaking long now. I started with it mid way.
Here's a PT Group at Aionsource: http://www.aionsource.com/forum/groups/145-we-phoenix-throne.html
I've not seen a list, per se but looks like:
Archons of Malice
Warseekers
Crimson Revenge
Vigilance
Plague
Sol Invictus
Reverence
Lies and Propaganda
I see a number of individuals, like myself, making plans to sub as well.

I am hoping we can get people who want to work together, and not cut and run when the going gets tough.
Also hope we can get people who aren't very very set on doing things their way, or the highway.
Some may say it's unrealistic for people/factions to want to work together, but honestly I am just hoping we wouldn't have a repeat of people actively working against each other on the same side, then essentially quiting in mass.

Realistically; however, it's tough to find situations where people are generally content. You can't expect people to remain in situations that make them unhappy. Especially when it's simply a past time like gaming.
I for one, am growing more and more intolerant of poorly designed, grindy games. I've got lots to do in my spare time besides gaming so I want something that's worthwhile, devouring up chunks of that precious free time.

I think it makes it a whole lot easier when the game itself is reasonably good. In a game where there are a tone of bugs, horrible balance and a ton of lagg it makes more fustration. ( not saying this about warhammer, but any game that is this way) or if the gameplay is bland it has a similiar affect. People will become unhappy and just leave or get upset. If a game is decent or better it cuts down on a lot of the problems

Part of the reason for the troubles we had in Warhammer is because the game has built-in "perverse incentives". As just ONE example: There were a lot of problems with forts stemming from supply lining, opportunities to farm guards, the lockout of zones when a fort is captured, and the rewards for successful defense. Put all of that together, and you had people actively undermining fort captures, or actively working to let the enemy hit your own fort. You had pretty much none of that in DAOC. Yes DAOC had its opportunities for conflict of interest ("gank groups" vs. "zergs", and "realm defenders" vs. "PvE raiders"). But you rarely had people actively opposing success in RvR, except for occasional calls to "take it easy" on a realm that was routinely getting pummeled.
We can hope that Aion doesn't have such a long list of institutionalized "perverse incentives" that encourage people to go against the face-value goals of the game.

You all bring up some good points that I would agree with.
So far the only "perverse incentive" I can think of in Aion is the following: Once your RvR rank becomes very high, you lose tons of Abyss points by getting killed, and usually gain only a very small amount when you do kill people. Therein, once you get high enough, you usually have to stop RvRing and just avoid other people, grinding pve quests to keep your ranking.
I am ok with that, since I will be plenty happy fighting, dying and saying the hell with my rank. Just buy up items as soon as you have the abyss points for em, and move on.

Yes, the AP mechanic is interesting. Especially the aspect that you use AP points to buy gear (which expends them).
Different people will look at this in different ways. Here is how I look at it:
* Except for the very highest ranks, AP points do not give you any abilities. They are NOT like realm ranks in DAOC or Warhammer.
* They are currency to spend on equipment. They might influence social standing, but otherwise have no impact on the game.
* If anything, it is to your advantage to keep your rank low buy buying the equipment, because you get more APs from kills and lose fewer APs from being killed. This is totally different from DAOC or Warhammer, where you want to build up your rank to get the abilities associated with it.
The exception to this is that a limited number of people get these god-like abilities. But its no picnic for them! So no need to feel envious. :)
Rayhort

Plus those god like abilities consume AP when you use them, so its not like you can just spam away.

I personally like the system. The way it works it basically makes sure no one stays on top forever because when they die they loose so many points, thus there will be people changing out with the top rank regularly.
I personally don't care about my rank either. Sure I want the gear but I am here to have fun, and the gear will come once I can get it.

My only complaint, really from playing previous games, is I wish they had an RvR, PvP level, xp gained from killing people. So you could keep leveling, while keep amassing gear through abyss points.
Yes, like Warhammer.

Have any of the guilds here chosen a server yet? I know there is no official list but I wasn't sure if perhaps they chose one of the "knowns" like the beta server names.
Created a thread about ASC on that Aion RP site looks like people remember us, so thats good :D
When my Sm got to level 16 she had 110 kinah without actually seeling anyhting to any other players, so really its not all that much money if you are not in a hurry. I would just like to get to level 2 as quickly as possible for the added benifits.... like a guild warehouse and the ability to invite more than 30 people into the legion [though I think we still have under 30 so far in the ASC legion :*( - had 58 in beta but only 29 signed up on the website so far]
Also do we know how many are looking to join up with a guild from the alliance, and what guilds from the alliance are joining Aion?
Gisli

Well, the original purpose of this thread was for guilds to announce their intentions to form in Aion. ASC and Ravens are the only ones who have responded. And if you had 58 in Beta, it sounds like we're both getting pretty full. Remember that any alts count against your guild size cap. How many were you planning to have?
As for server: I don't know what to base a decision on. In a sense, they all seem the same. So it doesn't matter much to me. I definitely want to end up on a high-population server!
Our best bet might be to join whichever one the Aionroleplayers forum announces as the "unofficial Roleplayer server".
We definitely should try to agree on an OB server to play together. We have been playing on Vaizel. How about you?

I'm betting Siel will be the highest pop server since it was the first beta server and the most populated one. I imagine there will be a lot of people who will just pick that one out of familiarity. That is what happened in lineage 2.

I'm sure we'll want to avoid the server that the kiddie/hacker guilds (Ebonlore, Goons, Ragequit, etc.) go to. Maybe we should assign an "Intelligence Committee" to find out where the worst of the worst are going, so we make sure to avoid that server like the plague. And speaking of servers, has anybody seen any good threads on Aion forums about an "unofficial RP server" lately? There were a couple of long, good threads on Aionsource, but they've fallen off the front five pages or so. Do you suppose we could make a sticky here for good Aion sites, perhaps?
I'll start with a pretty good one: http://impetusium.blogspot.com/

EDIT: This is the old "unofficial RP server" thread for those who missed it: http://www.aionsource.com/forum/general-discussion/34669-making-unofficial-rp-server.html
Oh, and http://www.aionroleplayers.com/ will most certainly have this discussion. Obviously, I'm not qualified to be on any "Intelligence" committee. Hah!

We were on triniel, but we can go to any its not a big deal for us.
Yes we had 58 in beta but we probably will only have 15-25 come Open beta. Probably around 30-40 come launch.
Alts are undecided as to what we will do with them. I htink we will probably invite them, but have a rule stating they will be kicked if there is need to have room for an invite to someone.
As for how large we plan to get, don't really know. ASC at one point in time was huge, now its around 128 people ( still very large imo) though quite a few are probably alts. I would like to keep around 60 main accounts in the Aion chapter of the guild. I think this is a good number that allows for both raiding and grouping at the same time. I don't want to be one of those guilds where we only have people sign on just for raids, and we barely have enough to sustain a raid.
