I beat Drakensang, although I did a few things wrong I don't think its worth replaying right away.
Any other good games out there that came out this year? I like RPGs, War, and story based games.
I am bored out of my mind right now, I even made a Facebook account recently lol.

Fallout 3? (RPG)
Dawn of War 2? (War)
I just got Prince of Persia for my mac. It's pretty rad if you haven't played it yet. This is a new version from 2008, not 1986.

I had been playing DAoC - the old Mid/Perc characters - for the past month, but I canceled the accounts yesterday (the main, and the required buff-bot, of course). Some of the old Mid/Perc gang is still around, but the cluster itself is mostly kids with bad attitudes, so that didn't last long. A few too many fights with Albs/Hibs where the "l33t Mid 8-mans" just run on by, not helping at all, with exactly zero realm pride any more :(
I was thinking of just goofing off on the Zealot in lowbie WAR scenarios for a couple of weeks until Aion OB, but it appears that not many Ravens are left there.
Now, I've had Divine Divinity installed on various PCs for many years. I'm finally going to finish it!

Bunch of Interplay games were just released on Steam if you looking for some oldies to replay; Fallout 1 & 2 and tactics, Sacrifce, and Kingpin

Failing that, I suggest Beyond Good and Evil, cheap very fun game that should keep you compelled for a couple weeks of casual play.

I've been in the champs beta. it's pretty fun. You feel super-powered, they got that right again. Only been in the 5 on 5 pvp scenario. I teamed up with a couple ex daoc'ers in the game and we destroyed folks in that scenario. If anyone else is in my handle is @Scorpy2643 (that'll make sense once yer in game)
I'm going to miss the 1st week of actual play as I will be out of town.

So, staying on the "What to play until Aion?" topic, let's say I have this "friend" who has a bad case of Elderly Adult ADD and re-installed Warhammer Online. Should I play the 9 Zealot, 22 Sorceress, or 31 Witch Elf? Are there any lowbie scenarios going on at all on PT? And only the WE is in Ravens guild, so who is still playing that I can bug for a guildinvite for the others? I'm thinking I should play the Zealot (or a new Shaman) to get back into the healing groove for Aion.

Edit: If anybody is curious, re-installing WAR from the launch disks results in a 2.256 GB patch.

If you like FPS's (non-MMO, in this case), Section 8 (http://www.joinsection8.com/) looks promising with the little I've been able to play it so far. I think they're out of beta keys at the moment, but it's something to check on.

I don't believe Champions is a legitmate release.
Pick one supremely overpowered ability, like thunder lunge, then power it up and spam it over and over, slamming into mobs from afar and cleaning whole zones in minutes.
Killing an chapter boss with eight hits in about as many seconds? Yeah I don't suggest anyone waste money on this when it goes live.
Bill Roper sliming around the product just makes it worse, along with their "life time membership." Ha!

I've been in Warhammer Online the past couple of days, just goofing off on lowbies on some higher-population servers. When I log into Phoenix Throne to check things out, there are anywhere from zero to two members of Ravens of War online. :(
There must be some of you that still have WAR subs and are bored. Maybe we could form some pre-made scenario type guild just to have some giggles for the next few weeks. Since PT never has any scenarios going on any more (God, that's so sad), maybe Iron Rock/Gorfang/Badlands would be best, if anybody is interested.

I would agree with this, not to mention the horribly unbalanced PVP where people just stack defense/healing/immunity and are mini-gods that don't die... its really no fun doing 1 damage to someone.

Fallout 3? (RPG)
Dawn of War 2? (War)
So someone noticed my subtle hint at an alternative? Nooooooo wai!
I have a discussion about it on the PT Group forum at Aionsource.
All I can say is that's its been sweet, bloody post-WAR therapy.
In a sense... I've replaced WAR with War. The nuclear kind.
If you haven't checked out Fallout 3, just think Mad Max and The Road Warrior - you'll then have some idea of what my virtual playground looks like now.
My character has a melee & Big Guns build. Throw in a perk that disintegrates my targets into a mess of gurgling, hamburger meat and I'm chortling at my desk like a madwoman.
Ironic, how I keep finding myself playing characters with pets. Only in Fallout 3 they're referred to as companions. Mine are: a dog and a hulking Mutant with an itchy trigger finger that charges into battle firing a lazer gattling gun.

Heh fallout 3 was quite awesome, once it got patched to stop crashing. My favorite companion is Fawkes as well, he's endlessly amusing, and much more deadly than Charon.
Also enjoyed the references from Fawkes and Uncle Leo regarding Zen Buddhism and it's implications to surviving the FEV transformation mind somewhat intact. It's the little touches I enjoyed that you had to think about, well I must admit I did enjoy flamethrowering, sniping and chain gunning things too!
And how is a game with both a chain gun and a laser gattling gun not awesome?

No "unofficial RP server" has been selected. I suspect that the odds that it would be Triniel are pretty low in any case, even if it did end up being a server name at launch (which isn't known either). So please do not start rumors.

It's not quoted properly, but it's information from HGM Spam.
It is reasonable to assume that the missing four are Kaisinel, Yustiel, Lumiel and Marchutan (not necessarily in that order) as those are the missing ones out of the 12 Empyrean Lords (13-16 are not Empyrean Lords), but they are not actually confirmed as server names as of yet.

It's chock full of real world cultural references. From the obvious, US History, to movies like Blade Runner and to then to books like Dune... I'm sure you recall the pills that boost intelligence, Mentats. I love all the bits of 50's pop art blended in.

Thanks for the list! I think I got the Zen reference when Uncle Leo wished I could give me the moon after I swiped his clothes!
When the PC tries to rob Uncle Leo (http://www.waronphoenixthrone.org/wiki/Uncle_Leo), his dialogue--in which he tells you the clothes are a gift and he wishes he could give you the "wonderful moon"--comes from the following Zen Buddhist koan:
Ryokan, a Zen master, lived the simplest kind of life in a little hut at the foot of a mountain. One evening a thief visited the hut only to discover there was nothing to steal.
Ryokan returned and caught him. “You have come a long way to visit me,” he told the prowler, “and you should not return empty-handed. Please take my clothes as a gift.”
The thief was bewildered. He took the clothes and slunk away.
Ryoken sat naked, watching the moon. “Poor fellow,” he mused, “I wish I could have given him this beautiful moon.”[ (http://www.dailybuddhism.com/archives/142)

What to play until Aion? Well, could do Warhammer Online monthly till Aion comes out. Today, I got "Batman: Arkham Asylum" game because was just the heck impressed by the demo on my video console and saw a great deal on it. Usually games based on comic book hero and movies just suck, but whoever programmed it really put effort in coming out with a high quality game instead of relying on the name of product to sell crud.

Boy, if I'd played a Squig Hunter in WAR, I might have lasted more than two months. You should try it out, if you still have a subscription (or you might be eligible for the 10 free days thing). I enjoy regularly doubling the #2 on "Damage Done" in scenarios, besides the fact that the class and race are a blast. Playing the Witch Elf was nothing but pure frustration, with never getting healed/guarded and being a naturally too-aggressive stinker like I am, but the Squig Herder is a night full of giggles!

Seriously that's why they have flash of recovery in game, so all the sorc's don't explode when the assassin's get on them.
That said I bet Vire would be an assassin, if for no other reason to show Gutz how the class works!

If its like it was previously(and ive been told by friends it is) its a shadow of what DnD really is(or was in your case). I went there looking for a DnD fix when it released and left with a very sour taste in my mouth. The game may have matured by then, but the lesson i took away from DDO was that i didnt so much play DnD for the game as much as who i played with.

I used to play DDO like a mad man. I even used 2 accounts so I could solo dungeons with locks (need a rogue lockpicker to open things and remove traps).
If you ever played DDO in the past or participated in the Beta over the Summer months, you should be able to play now in headstart. Otherwise I think everyone gets free access starting next week.
They run the game FREE to play, or you can sub for 15 a month and get all the goodies. You can also play FREE and purchase selected items/functions within the game using Microtransactions. I went ahead and dumped 15 into it so I could access all my characters. You get 4 characters with FREE to play, I had 5 from the old days, so I wanted to consolidate my items off that 5th character if I decide to unsub later.
I play on Argonessen.

its a game mechanic that is required to make things work. get over it. =) Their "magic points" system does not regenerate until you camp, rest or use a tavern or Inn. You cannot just cast endless spells. You need wands, potions and good tactics or you will run out of healing really fast if you just "cast spells with your mana"...
Drakhon
09-02-2009, 09:26 PM
Not really seeing what prevented them from doing it the right way, then. What you've described is essentially the way Sorcs work, after all, if you replace "daily spell casts" with "daily mana pool".
Korasia
09-02-2009, 10:12 PM
Didn't they do it like that to reflect the orginal pen and paper version of DnD ? :P
As I recall you only could cast a certain amount of spells a day, so you had to pick like 5 out of 15 for example to use for that play session. It was your loss when you choose cure disease and not the cure poison spell such that your friend's character dies beacuse you forgot ot get both :P

You can't seriously like the horrendous, old D&D way of "memorizing" spells. I played that stupid game for countless thousands of hours over something like 34 years, and everybody hated that system. Hell, I remember being 13 years old and the players would try to erase/pencil to "cheat" which spells they had memorized when the DM wasn't watching. I realize tens of millions of people have spent billions buying variations of that game system, but it's now thankfully ancient history.

I've looked into it, and it doesn't hold my interest as much. I play with a more woodsball/tactical oriented group of folks, and experience has taught me that you can't always count on the honour system for people to call themselves out. Something satisfying about seeing your foe walk off the field with a bright orange blob on his lens! :p
There's also kinda of a mechanical clunkyness to paintball that draws me to the markers - no whizbang spaceguns for me please, whether they be tournament grade pb makers or some of the airsoft electros that look like toys.

Ah see with airsoft though there is the pain factor, they may lie and not call out hits but all that is required is to full auto them until they either a) scream out they are hit or b) really scream out that they are hit! Unless they are some sick masochistic freak, in which case they probably aren't calling out the hits because they like the pain and want to get shot more.
