What is the name of the program that folks are using to bypass lag due to location. I am still experiencing lag every other combat and when i am am trying to interact with people/objects. It's not too bad,but it is enough that it will be a death sentence in rvr. I just experienced my first CTD,but the lag and ctd may be due to opening day craziness.
I just remember seeing someone mention a program that you can download to help with lag. For the life of me i cannot find any info on i though.
Gamepath.
I do know I am not going to use it, if I still have bad lag then I guess I will just be out $40 and go play Total War till Dragon Age comes out.

Notwife and I having odd issues with lag - seems like one or the other will have a laggy experience. If we relog, then it might switch to the other person and persist until the next relog attempt.
At one point, she was pinging over 500K ms, while I was plodding along with no issues. Checked my router, there's no funky QoS stuff going on, so not sure what the deal is.

Yeah,it came and went there for abit till they brought the servers down for the restart. I'll just deal with it till it goes live. If it's still there,i may just go do something else instead.

I have also noticed ( for some people) that if you logg in and have some nice lagg, logg completely out to server select, and then back in. It dropped my ping by 500 points

Okay, dumb question. Low ping is good then? I averaged anywhere form 40 - 350 from the times i checked. I am sure there was a lot more variation going on.

I just paid for a Gamepath account. It took about twenty minutes to set it up. The difference it made in Aion OB today was absolutely *UNREAL*. Everything was happening the instant I pushed the button, as opposed to the nasty lag-bursts of up to thirty seconds (30 seconds!) for most of CB and OB earlier today. Not being a compensated endorser, I can definitely testify that $6/month is nothing compared to what this service does for you.

That may be true, but it's only getting you to a level that you should already be at. The network issues are not NCSoft's fault, but as they are the one selling their product to us and the problems are on a much larger scale than local routing (which would be the user's responsibility to deal with the ISP about), it is their responsibility to work with the ISPs to get it fixed.
It's not much money and most people that will pay to play the game can probably afford it, but we should not have to and most will refuse to do so.

Hmph; I can honestly say that I am NOT paying some third party in order to make the game run properly....
I dont' have lag issues with any other games (with the exception of forts in WAR but that's graphics card issues not lag per say).
I had no problems in CB, and didn't expect any in OB, but it's unplayable right now.
6$ isn't a lot, but it's the principle of the thing... Why should we, the players, have to shell out *MORE* money just to make the game playable?

Also check the pop on the server you are playing......if its really high, swap......they will wipe servers anyways.

My experience was good until around 11 pm est on OB. Then my character kept time warping. I was trying to get to my location and suddenly I popped back where I was at the beginning. I even had a hard time killing the mobs. I am thinking that maybe it has to do how crowded it is in here. After all it is OB and probably the most people are on it now.

This is BETA folks.
I would suggest holding off on buying any 3rd party routing software until you see what its like at release. This is the point of Beta, to identify issues like this before retail.
I was having great performance all day, while listening to people complain about lag, rubber banding, warping and such. I thought I must be lucky! Then around 10PM EST last night, it became unplayable.
So it is not just affecting a few, it's affecting MANY and it seems to pick and choose randomly, its targets. Just hold the line and wait it out. This is a holiday weekend, so we may not see much improvement until middle of the week.

Yes, I agree with Scarr. Most of the time, I get good performance. Sometimes I get the unplayable lag. Relogging solves it about half the time for me. Hopefully we won't get any of the super-high congestion that causes server-side problems. It seems to largely be an issue related to blocks on the route between you and their servers, which I hope they can work out in the next two weeks.

I know some people who used Gamepath in WoW, and it lowered normal pings from 400-500ms to the 200ms range. That's certainly enough to have at least a modest impact on your enjoyment of the game, especially for PvP. I don't mean to belabor the point (and I don't disagree with you that NC-Soft better get this crap fixed), but $6 to make a huge difference in your enjoyment of the Aion OB even for the next week is definitely worth it.

The primary means of reducing their ping are two TCP settings - TCPNoDelay and the disabling of the Nagle algorithm. These are both set as part of the PuTTY tunnel, but can be set in Windows itself as well.
The only benefit of the proxy service itself is to allow you to get around poor nodes in the route between you and the game server, depending on where that node is.

Interesting post originally from beta forums. Apparently two bottlenecks have been found that are giving time outs.
This is a portion of my tracert:
Tracing route to 206-127-155-66.plaync.com [206.127.155.66]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
3 8 ms 8 ms 8 ms 24.215.3.130
4 12 ms 10 ms 12 ms 216.191.57.177
5 162 ms 25 ms 222 ms TenGE10-3.br03.chc01.pccwbtn.net [206.223.119.48
]
6 * * * Request timed out.
7 * * * Request timed out.
8 * * * Request timed out.
9
The pccwbtn.net and also an address called "Level3" are causing a majority of the problems. I am getting constant disconnects and it from this routing. You can check if you have the same cause by entering tracert 206-127-155-66 into your command prompt.

Either I just had a lag free playing time, they fixed the lag or I fixed it for myself.
I did two things.
1) Run the NCSoft Launcher.
Right click on Aion and choose properties.
In the box that says "Extra Command Line Parameters (Advanced)" add
-ip:206.127.153.247 -port:2106
The ip is supposed to be the server ip, but it is different from the one people have here. IT didn't seem to do much so today I added 2106 as an open prt in my router setup which is what probably fixed my problem.
Or I got lucky with my brief play time.
