Why did the EU get more servers and servers with easier to recall names? I feel personally slighted!

I guess more people played OB in EU, but I've not seen numbers or an announcement. As for the names... for what its worth, we got consistent Aion lore names, while EU got whatever random mishmash of names that NCSoft could dream up.

Yeah they got a random grab bag of various greek and norse mythic server names, I'll give you that.

Interestingly I heard EU open beta was even less open than our open beta. Guess that does mean it's popular.

Oh, well then. Honestly at this point I don't really have the time or inclination for open beta. I am hoping things will be a bit more free when head start rolls around.

At any point I am glad there will be a preselection in case I have to start the game a week or two late.

Open beta does not mean what you think it means. :)

I adhere to the following view:

Developers release either a closed beta or an open beta; closed beta versions are released to a select group of individuals for a user test, while open betas are to a larger community group, usually the general public.

So while you view it as a lifting of the NDA I view it as an opening to a larger community group, such as via fileplanet keys. Generally my point is for European test, no keys were giving out at all, just keys for preorders and the like. I found this is odd since many people do view the move from closed to open beta as a move involving allowing more people to access the product involved.

And yet, EU has more servers, implying a larger population actually involved in OB.

Good point, prehaps they have such a great number of pre-orders, they don't really have the server space to open the "open beta" up more.

It's open to Fileplanet members (not just subscribers) now. Even by your (wrong) definition, you can stop using the quotes now.

Ah, you might be misunderstand the reason for the quotes.

I am aware you consider there to be one valid definition of open beta but the quotes are more meant as a subtext to illustrate how words and phrases have a variety of meanings and evolve over time.

For instance we could both agree that NDA was lifted before open beta and that honestly we really aren't testing anything, beta was just a bonus for preorders. So here open beta could easily be short hand for "large public game viewing".

Off subject, I bet you are not a fan of people using the term "stat" out of medical context either. =)

I believe that they have a certain threshold of people they want on there servers to test the load on there set up...probably unnecessary to have 500k people on vs 100k on.... Plus considering the negative impact of first impressions in a open beta can get out of hand and hurt a games launch also...so it could be a Technical marketing balancing act with numbers for them...get enough on to test the load..but not too many people so just incase bugs show there ugly faces...the nay sayer impact will be minimalized... Just a thought...

It's not really that I have a problem with the forking of definitions - it's necessary for the evolution of our language - but more that people react with "this is stupid! that's not open!" when referring to a beta that follows the actual definition the industry uses (well, most of it, but not necessarily most of the community due in significant part to WoW).

Off subject, I bet you are not a fan of people using the term "stat" out of medical context either. =)Actually, I think it sounds kind of dumb in the medical context (or anywhere else you might use it with the same meaning), but it does serve a meaningful purpose and standing out in your mind is kind of the idea.
