Order or Destruction! [Archive]

There's no real way to tell which way the scales will tip until release. The casual crowd always tends to go to the 'good guys'. You don't see too many Casuals in betas... So Destruction may very well be the underdog come release.

That said, I wouldn't mind either way. I'd sort of have more of a leaning to Destruction because I want to play a Shaman and Squig Herder, but I wont be heart broken if I play an Archmage or Shadow Warrior/White Lion. ;D

Destruction for my main server, though will probably try an open RvR server for Order side.

We could always start a cadet branch of the guild on some open ruleset for order.

We need to be a bit careful here, or we're going to get really confused. Some things have already been decided.

What is the purpose of this site? It is to provide a community center for one faction on one server. In particular, we already know that we are going to be playing destruction. And we already know that we will be playing on an RP core ruleset server. All that remains at this point is to figure out which server, and we can't do that until Mythic lets us know the names.

Ideally this site will become what the Midgard Warroom was for Percival/Mid and then Tintagel/Mid. But we can't make that happen unilaterally, the community of our eventual server has to buy in when the time comes for that to happen. What we can decide is that this site will support a collection of allied guilds, which is whatever guilds choose to participate here. (I will be asking sometime soon for such guilds to declare themselves.)

Certainly friends are welcome to visit here who are doing something else. But the organizational setup, eventual access permissions to protected forums, and reason for being is to support the destruction faction on some particular server.

We could always start a cadet branch of the guild on some open ruleset for order.

Of course, a guild can choose to do whatever it wants along those lines. But that doesn't affect the organization for this site.

Actually I was thinking we all end up on the same server, at the very least. Sure after the opening you can dedicate this site to destruction, but until then use this site to find a server everyone can play on/against each other.

I'd love to see Raad deathspam again no matter which side I'm fighting for.

How do you think I feel being one of the few Albs from OF? The clustering destroyed the game, among other things. However, it allowed me to play with some of you and see how different things really were. Trying to lead Albs in the field was like herding cats in a catnip farm. After 3-4 attempts I just gave up. No point in trying if they didn't want to listen.

Well Matael, that is the one thing I love about Midgard, they will listen. We love mass combat, siege and teamwork. If Midgard had a siege class like the animist or banshee life would have been a living hell for people in the other two realms.

In Warhammer it will be fun running multi-prong operations and taking keeps from the Order flunkies. Let us just hope that the Runemaster/Engineer combo is not the animist/banshee of Warhammer. :D

Personally I Like the "pretty" orderly side usually. But all my friends and family plan to play distruction so I'll most likely make a toon there along with most of you, it sounds like!

I'm hoping I'll be able to make a toon on another server like I have with DAoC before the clustering. Gave me a chance to try something different for when I got bored with my main. I would leave Guin-Hib and go to Perc-Alb or Nim-Mid. Of course the cluster messed that stuff up for lots of other!

Well as it turns out, there are a few people in our forming guild who like to be..."creative"... in their names, so we won't be on a RP server for our Destruction characters. We will be on a RP server for our Order characters, however...

So it looks like the only time I'll be seeing you all is across the battlefield, as I send your souls, what's left of them anyway, back to your foul Gods. :)

Since we'll be on Destruction side, hopefully we can be on the same server as Shadowclan. If any of you haven't heard of them, they are a great RP guild that really enjoys being in character. The Greenskins are right up their alley.

We were allied with Shadowclan for a little while in the last phase. They didn't interact much with us. I'll see if they want to do anything this time. But I think they are more focussed on the the Only-WAR initiative (though they are not part of the formal Only-WAR alliance).

So how are the Only War ties going? I know Tirium has been in contact with us but have not heqar a word. Well anyway, I'll be in the next beta phase so I can start using my suitable charms to screw everything up. :D

I tried to make contact with them. I posted at their site. In addition to Tirium, I have also spoken with the GL of one of their member guilds a few times (he seemed pretty nice). I exchanged PMs with what I think is their main site admin. Basically, everyone seemed to be saying vaguely "well, you need to get all the alliance GLs to agree", without telling me anyone in particular to talk to or what to do. Tirium is the only one really willing to talk so far. Basically, at this point, I don't think they have their act together well enough to make it worth worrying about. I doubt most of them ever played much DAOC, since they don't appear to have learned much about how alliances really operate. It looks to me like they are thinking in the naive, up-tight way about alliances that characterized our own thinking during the first 6-12 months of DAOC. It all seems very familiar. But we're way beyond that now. We have our own community that has critical mass, and we don't know for sure that we'll even be on their server. So I am happy to interact with them if they wish. But I've done enough beating my head against the wall, and they just don't appear interested in talking to people outside of their own circle. If we do end up on the same server, it will all come together well enough in time. No sense in trying to force things now if they aren't ready.

I need about 1-2 more days. Then I will start everyone talking about the process of organizing our own alliance. Given the teeny-tiny cap on alliances (10 guilds), we can't really afford to be a formal part of the Only-WAR alliance anyway.

Which is a great argument for consolidation of medium-sized guilds, btw. This game is going to really reward guild size.

I personally hope its balanced. I tend to like smaller guilds myself but still coordinate with the realm if and when its needed. We'll see though. :)

The newest game trailer probably won't help much, it made Destruction look a lot more fun and badass to play over Order.

I had a quick question realizing that this alliance is going to Chaos, but I am jumping ahead of myself.

I am a member of The Fist of the North Mid/Percival. Our guild is split between those wanting to go to Order and those wanting to play Chaos. Our female members don't like not having the option to play female tunes of all classes, so they are turned off by Chaos. There husbands are going to play where their wives are happy, understandably. We are too small to take a split and still be effective, and we don't want to relax our guilding policies. Most of us would really like to play with a Percival alliance though. We remember many of you fondly; moreover, we trust you as gamers.

My question, is there also going to be a Percival/Order alliance on another server? If not, is anyone interested in starting one?

This is not to take away from this alliance as I completely support the idea. I was just curious if the other side would be represented by like-minded players.

i want to play both, but with the alliance. will go evil first, then if alliance has a order presence on an alternate RP server I will roll a BW there :D

Gudrek -- As you can see from the poll, the vast majority that have expressed an opinion want to go Destruction. So that is the direction our organizational efforts have gone.

But there are people interested in Order. There might even be a couple of guilds that are going all order, or have branches in both sides. The big problem is that nobody has stepped forward who will take the lead in getting such people together. If somebody would do that, then hopefully all the folks who want to have ties to this community but still have a bunch of friends to play with on Order side would know where to find them. That could be a great service to the community.

There is one complication. It could be that some people who want to play order want to do it fighting us on the same server. But other people would want to play order on another server, so that they can play with friends both places. If we have a clear community branch on ANOTHER SERVER playing order, we could extend board resources here (forums for the purpose and so on) to support it. But I do NOT want to get into the potential conflicts of interest involved in supporting an order community on our main destruction server.

I've played both sides and as a female I feel that Destruction is the better side to play regardless of the fungus

You may be absolutely correct. I am just trying to solve a problem in my guild, and one that may exist in other guilds,

Ideally, it would be wonderful to have two alliances from the respective RP servers of DAoC playing WHO on two servers. Two established alliances would allow those of us in small guilds and/or who are growing older to still have fun, get groups, and participate effectively. We would get to play with people who we already know are good people and like-minded gamers.

From a female perspective, I get a lot less grief from the gamers I know then the gamers who I don't know. Not that I can't make friends, but hordes of testerone make gaming and finding new people difficult.

I don't have a hubby to game with though. Just a sister :)

I would like to point out that we greenskins do wear clothes for reason. Spore emitters anyone?

I hope your spam isn't as intense as it was in OF at AMG and MMG in Emain. That PBAE damage was pretty disgusting because of how many tards ran into the gate house or gate and into oblivion. I was always jealous since I was on a scout or inf back then. That made me turn to hib and the epileptic slide show known as the mana eld. They're so fun i made them on two different clusters.
