Didn't see this posted elsewhere, very interesting video that gives lots of info. One thing I found interesting was early in the video where they talk about how they plan to handle faction population on servers. Sounds good on paper so far, just hope it doesn't backfire and we find some of our own getting locked out or placed in a queue like feature.

Uh oh. My little crew and friends have actually begun to consider going with Order because of population imbalance concerns =P. But don't burn me at the stake just yet. Nothing's written in stone so far.

Well, the overall population according to WHA's class poll is about 53:47 in favor of Destruction as of last night (with about 4400 votes), so I wouldn't say that's an issue in the large scale. Like always, it's all about the server you play on, so it's silly for them to make it a consideration at this point.

I don't consider WHA or VN polls to be reliable predictors, but either way I don't think it's silly at all to take into account reasonable concerns about population balance :). We're maintaining a very flexible and open attitude, and intend to have a lot of fun either way. Anyway, let's not derail Thumbs' thread any further! I shouldn't have gotten into commenting about this here; I got sidetracked into a moment of fun with Aoann, that's all.

Server balance will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Simply find the Servers center of gravity.

I thought that Server balance was how servers carried all those plates to your table at once.

Gong! You all got it wrong...it's you "fix" left axe moves, claim there is no "stealth war" and give realms different amounts of classes! :)
Well, in the past, Realm balance to me ment... Galroth leading us around into EVERY MOB that could possibly be found in a frontier area... This way we always seemed to find Hib's and Alby's with half health.
wallah... realm balance!

I'm a little worried about the "capping" of overpopulated realms. Hopefully that won't cause a problem for us.
I like the idea of incentives to the underpopulated realm to help them level up faster, and especially like that they offer no RvR advantages for being underpopulated. It sounds harsh, but it makes sense.

You have to remember. Most hardcore gamers go with the evil d00ds. Most random people come on and go "I want to be a knight in shining armour!" most of the people who have voted are more hardcore people because they're actually paying attention to the game.

The new WHA class poll is still showing ~53.5% Destruction, now over 5200+ votes. It's been at approximately that percentage since at least 4000 votes (when I first did the figuring). The previous poll a few months ago was 60% Destruction.
This is something I've said before, but it still all comes down to the server you play on. The closer the overall population is to balanced the more likely you are to find a balanced server, however.

"I want to be a knight in shining armour!"
which is why, sadly, removing the Empire "knight" class was a bad thing for pop balance... stupid as it sounds. they should have beat that class into working

Dang, I didn't think about that at all. Bring back the knight in shining armor!

I think the sword master will probably still work for those folks... provided they are okay with the elf part.

It is a little ridiculous that the Empire military has no armored warrior types...

Well, in a more realistic context, a world with guns, heavy crossbows and longbows would make heavy armor obsolete. Of course, if that was the case melee dps and tanks would have a very small role. Kind of like the real world. The British Empire was built on naval power and rdps.

Sure, but with warhammer army lore for empire, they are chock full of knights. Knights Panther,Knights of the White Wolf,Reiksguard Knights along with the Order of the Blazing Sun. Am sure there are more orders to be found throughout the army books.
Even though,I am playing destruction.I already have friends saying they are not going to bother with War due to classes being left out, primarily the knight of the blazing sun. I really am beginning to think Mythic is going to drop the ball with releasing a game only 75% done. In all honesty,i dont blame Mythic but EA i believe is at fault here.

Yeah they should have had a knight class.
I had an empire army and it mostly consisted of my Knights of Panther, Karl Franz on his Griffon, artillery, and the party on wheels! I'd throw haflings in as my bow men and sometimes add another griffon.... True I'd always have a Hero Mage in there somewhere and some champions and what not....
For certain though... The MAIN FORCE of an empire army was your Knights.... They definately should have been there. It's too bad. They probably would have been better off keeping the Knight and ditching the sword master since the elves still got their shadow warrior who could use swords.
They could spend summer after summer releasing expansions with new classes though.

Charging for classes that were intended for release and then cut as close as they were would piss a lot of people off, Mark Jacobs (http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1021883#post1021883) included.

Not to get into a historical debate here but full plate was still being used well into the 1500s well after firearms became plentiful and centuries after heavy xbows and longbows were being used on the battlefield. Partial plate was used by cavalry into the 1800s.
But more importantly, the Empire is supposed to have knights!:D

Here's a post from the Warhammer Alliance website by Mark Jacobs on server balancing.

The CE and headstart people may have to simply forgo anything they do those first few days if the servers fill up and late arriving guildmates can't log on, requiring everyone to reroll onto a newly opened server. Any thoughts? If all the servers are opened up at once, it will allow the CE folks to spread out a little bit, but even that is not a sure thing. These server/realm queues really have wondering how to manage server selection.Well, we are certainly not going to open all the servers that we have racked when the HS begins, that would be a huge mistake as lots of people could get stuck on servers that might not have a lot of people on them for weeks. It's a tough balancing act. We are certainly going to open extra servers at launch and population cap them initially (so the lowbie areas aren't filled to the brim) and then raise the cap to allow more people to get on after people start tiering up.
I wish I could say that there was a simple solution but there isn't. We can do things to try to help the problem but even allowing people to freely transfer between servers won't eliminate the problem totally and then could create another problem itself. Even with a moving pop cap, there is still the chance that people might not be able to get on to a server with a friends if that server is full. We'll just have to see how things play out and react accordingly.
Mark
