Fragments have to be of the appropriate skill level in order to skill up. In other words, once you get past the skill level 1 Fragments, you'll have to get them from Salvaging (whether it's you or someone you buy them from).

For everything else, you can use the 1 skill items all the way to 200 (in fact, there are currently only 1 skill Containers). You will, however, make shitty Talismans, but that's the trade off for easier skilling.

    I can back that up.

I've found that to be true as well. To add to this:

For the first 10 skill points of a 25 point step it doesn't seem to matter what you use aside from the fragment. For the next 15 points I seem to get a skill up more often if I use the more rare ingredients. Personal experience, nothing scientific.

What level of gear do I need to get in order to get the skill 50 fragments? My talisman making is 63 and I have a full bag of lvl 75 fragments. All the green/blue stuff Im getting in pq's and quests and random drops are turning into the 75 point stuff.

Is my best option now to goto renown merchants and buy stuff to get to 75?

Also, has anyone else noticed the severe lack of armor/weapons without a talisman slot?

Im beginning to question wether this was a wise tradeskill to take up as it seems Im never using the talismans that Im making. Add to that Im getting talismans as PQ rewards and am being forced to just dump all these gems to NPC vendors.

Dharnelle: Disciple of Khaine (Most fun so far!)
    Shrilinda: Zealot (Shelved for now)

If Dhar magic isn't killing me, I'm not trying hard enough.

That's what I had to do. There is a shortage of gear for that skill level if my remember is working right.

I've been finding more gear with a slot in the higher levels.

My biggest complaint is the dropped tailsmans don't have the timer like the crafted ones do. That makes the drops much more appealing IMO.

I think we need to wait for more folks to get into the end game to see how useful tailsman makers will be over the long run. It's been my experience that many players have a "good enough" attitude. That will change in time. I just hope that the crafted tailsmans are better at that point.

Cillbo -- Don't worry about that. Dropped talismans are like 5 or 6 points. Crafted ones are like 16 or 19 points. And the ones with timers have timers measured in days (of playtime). So crafted talismans are certainly the way to go!

Based on Talisman rarity (by color):

    White: 8 hours
    Green: 2 days
    Blue: 5 days
    Purple: Permanent

I plan a more in-depth write up, but because of the way Salvaging works with respect to rarity, the only (relatively) easy purples to get are Wounds. That said, these numbers are play time, not wall time. At lower levels, what are the chances that a Talisman that expires after 8 hours or 2 days of play time is really going to be a problem? You'll replace the item, make better Talismans while skilling or, in the "worst" case, have to replace an expired Talisman with another. I have a lot of Talismans sitting on a bank alt that I made while leveling/skilling that I didn't get around to using.

There is, admittedly, more of a problem at 40 with getting purple (permanent) Talismans other than Wounds. Blue is easy, however, and 5 days is a lot of play time. Of course, blue Superior (top end) Talismans are +16 stats while purple are +19, but that's not really that big of a difference. Just think of them as weaker - but much longer lasting - potions, if that helps.

Glad to hear this. I was thinking that the progression of the drops and crafted where linear.
