In case you have not already heard this:

Mythic has announced the Collector's Edition. You might want to consider this, even if you don't normally do collector's editions. For one thing, the "open" beta merely means that the NDA is dropped. It does NOT mean that its open to anybody who cares to download the client. In other words, access will be limited. Everyone already in closed beta will roll over to the "open" beta. And I'm sure that a fair number of people will get into beta between now and then. The real kicker is that everyone who pre-orders the CE will get into the open beta, and some other goodies like live access a little bit early and some minor in-game goodies.

They claim there will be 60,000 North American copies of the CE. Its about $80.

For those who might consider it unfair to let CE people get early access to the game: I consider it a clever way to mitigate the craziness of "launch day" by spreading things out a bit. I still remember WoW's release and shudder... and that was a GOOD release, all things considered. My biggest concern is what it might mean to server selection.

I'm usually a sucker for most CE's, though I admit this CE has some really nice annoucned extras. The exclusive "faces" are enough for me to want to get it. I'll defintiely be pre-ordering it, just to get a shot to finally get into the beta.

I got mine last week, sort of. Gamestop preordered me a regular edition and gave me codes. Had to go in yesterday and get that changed and pay the difference.

I am looking forward to getting in before the worst craziness, as there is a "get in early" code as well. If anyone else does the same and we have a server picked, maybe those of us with the CE can do some name camping for the others.

I pre-orderded the CE on the simple fact that with the early access I won't have to spend $15 on shipping just for overnight, since I'm lazy I don't trust pre-ordering from regular stores.

I'm fairly certain that you can count on the CE coming not only in time for live, but in fact you should get it BEFORE the EARLY start that comes as a CE perk. In fact, you should be all loaded up from being in "open" beta. So if you view it as saving $15 on shipping, you are that much closer to breaking even as compared to the price of the standard box.

I am going to pre order AoC first. I am going to get the CE and sell the silly figure on ebay which will probably pay for the game!

The CE is selling very well, so you might want to consider popping ten bucks down at Gamestop just to reserve one.

For those of you in Beta already:

You do NOT want to enter you "open" Beta code into your account, since you ALREADY will be in "open" Beta. Mythic has confirmed that Beta testers can give away the "open" Beta code to somebody else. However, you definitely want to hold onto the other two codes!!
