I've looked at it before and, if executed well, I think it would be quite good. Unfortunately I don't think most of the people around here are much into shooters, even of the third-person variety. Gisli would think it was too much like Mario
Though Tribes 2 was almost universally considered worse than Tribes 1 until modders brought back the Tribes 1 physics.

Tribes 2 regular did suck... I played the Mod Doppleganger with HC clan ..had 3 servers up for a long time.... Was super fun.
yah I am sure not many FPS types around these parts....but if there are any that may try this game...I will be there for sure. How long I don't know....I am going to try to get into the beta by pre order asap.....see what I can learn about it.

I'm not pre-ordering/betaing so any info you get would be much appreciated. I probably will get the game though. I like that the core game and the pay-to-play MMO stuff are separate so I don't have to pay when I'm busy but can still enjoy the game on occasion.
I haven't played a shooter in a long time and was never very good at them, but I think it's time to give it another shot. Might as well make it one with some RPG dust sprinkled on it.
Sometimes in raids there is fire.
You have to not stand in that fire.
Its very polished for a beta state. The game play is pretty darn good. It's not the typical FPS where a head shot is death..... You have HP...Power Pool.... 3 talent trees per class....
Customization of character- None.. not on creation. The Customization will be from Armor you buy....Dyes you buy... A lot of the vendors were shut down in beta though. I couldn't check out the Implants store....
The combat: Pretty good team based gameplay. The combat moves and feels planet sideish....tribes ish...BUT....the hotbar does leave room for special skills you can load. Depending on class..its weapons...support tools...much like COD modern warfare you can customize your class...
Game types: PVP has 5 types in free sub.... Control being the first one you can enter...at certain levels you unlock the other type of playing fields. Payload being second to open.
Control is pretty much hold a capture point till it becomes yours...defend it or move to the next.... The payload is a bomb...that you have to stand near to get it to move on the tracks.....to each way point... (TUG O WAR).... the others I have not played...just having too much fun in the Control.
PVE...IS OK...the reason OK is it plays fine..but needs more maps and variety for lower level...it IS NOT the ideal place to xp up..but it is the only place to find crafting components.... The stuff got very interesting on higher unlock games... PVE has 5 stages to....High level security one is stage 4 ....and that is where variety kicked in....very tough...one level we had to sneak past security laser beams....then a gunnery range...fight many mini bosses....very team work based play..pugs suck fyi.
Now onto the classes I have played:
Robotoics so far is the highest level I have (26)...and I have tested the assault spec (drones) and the hold down the fort spec (Turrets)......I like both... The Turrets spec I have strong turrets...fast repair times...fast deploy.... I can set up a 4 barreled rocket launcher....sensor for stealth...and healing station and lock down a area...still can be taken out ...just not very easy =).... The Drone spec leans towards assaulting offensive type.....I upgraded my guns for this spec...droped all turrets...(cause you are on the move a lot)....and picked up a drone for my 3 slots for offhand skills... pretty much let loose my drone pets...and go in blasting =) going to teest more tonight...big patch came in.
Now skills on hotbar is unique: Primary,Secondary, 3 optional offhand slots.... I have a lot to pick from in my bookk of tricks now that I have a high level....
Robotics I have 2 guns to load and they have 4 levels each... same goes for second hand and offhand slots. Each upgrade costs points.... (15 points total you can use)....so if i wanted stronger turrets and crap...i have to give up upgrades on guns for instance ...haivng a crapy gun for better turrets... mix and matching.
The offhand selections are vast on robotics.... Healing station,Energy station, 3 turrets, Stealth Sensor, Energy SHield wall, 4 types of Drones, (and still more to unlock i cant use yet).
Confusing...what I am saying is there is variety to what you can mix and match up...reseting skill tree costs nothing....changing up loads on hotbar is free and can be done on the fly...either between games are at the starting area of a pvp map.
So far I love my Robotics for defensive....I change up to Assault for pushing the lines...heavy armored..heavy guns user.... he is level 22 now.
Classes:
Robotics- Engineer, Drone
Assault- Tank spec, Explosive spec,
Recon- Infiltrator melee types, Sniper types
Medic- Dunno...they heal =p I don't play healers or care to ever test it
All classes have a similar tree called balance..it has some good stuff...but I would use some talents in that and specialize in the others...
I can dump lots of info but i am not trying to write a big book....so ask speciifics and I can try to answer..
PS SUB GAME CONTENT:
Huge Raid wars taking territory ....I have not seen that side of the game....but I hear its the other half of the games content ...and huge wars.

there is a lot of content not launched in beta..i hear they tested them and pulled them out for focus testing the free content pvp maps and pve maps... so I havn't got my hands on the other stuff =(

Some points that I've found:
1. As you level from 1-30, you unlock devices (seem to be weapon types and ability-equivalents like grenades) and skill points (for use in the skill trees).
2. Levels 31-100 don't do anything for you beyond being something of a measure of how long you've been around and played, sort of like your XP bar filling in after you got 50 in DAoC.
3. Armor choice within a class is purely cosmetic.
As for "very polished for a beta state", it's 11 days from release and should hardly be in a beta state at all.

Well it's still in beta...getting tuned for launch...it does need tuning up on some latency and queues.
those higher level areas....i bet they have to add content for those....it will take a long time to hit those levels. I have no clue what plans they have to add to this games content.
All I know is that they are to add more content like MMO's go....with a 100 levels...they have time to fill the unknowns for us.
I would hold off on buying this game wait 3 weeks after it's launch...that is unless you are like me and don't mind spending the cash... im holding judgment... it plays fine..just feel it needs more stuff.

I wasn't being negative about no actual progression from the levels beyond 30. As far as I can tell, it's not that they intend to add content for them and they are what they mean them to be. Keep in mind that the game is really about the PvP and the Agency vs Agency warfare is the "endgame".
Another thing I've found is that the largest scale battles are 60v60 but they are actually divided into 6 10v10 instances that are interconnected. The example I've seen for that is that destroying the turret control system in one instance will shut down the turrets for all 6. I think the idea is to try to minimize lag while still being able to have multiple teams that work together to accomplish the mission by taking on different objectives within that mission.

I should mention I've picked this up. Haven't played it much (level 8), but it's a pretty entertaining FPS so far. I'm easy to find if I'm on (Originality is overrated). Now back to Bioshock 2, so I can finish that before the new total war and FF XIII
