    Default How is Rift going?

Just curious how many people are still playing Rift, and how the game seems to be working out.

Hey Gisli, hope you have been well.

Still playing Rift here, but finding the end game a bit limited. Pvp requires alot more content and stability, since each new patch brings massive changes to pvp gameplay. Nurfs to some classes, large buffs to other classes and the next patch will heavily modify cc.

I would say the game is still in commercial beta, where only a few classes are ruinously powerful at pvp, and these power classes change from patch to patch. Right now you want to play certain types of mages or tank healers, any melee classes are of lesser or little value. Currently cc and ae are the order of the day, but we will see what massive changes the next patch brings.

The pve aspect is great fun, offering a huge variety of classes, some quite powerful, some quite weak. Invasions remain a wonderful gameplay idea, giving a nice break between questing, running a dungeon or running the same warfront yet again. It's quite fun as you level, and very, very quick to reach 50.

The best that can be said is that the rift dev team are decent sorts and strive to balance and add more content to the game. The question is if they can balance and add quick enough, having been caught off guard by how quickly people went through the pve content, how limited the pvp content is and how unbalanced and complex pvp can be.

It's AION 2.0 without the long grind to get max level and the best gear (Fenris). Limited PvP options, boring PvE options and unobtainable raid options because most guilds have been decimated by quitters.

The arrangement is rather similar to WoW. Warfronts (Battlegrounds) for most PvP with only a little bit of world PvP on occasion - even on a PvP server with a lot of former Percival and Phoenix Throne players - as there's nothing meaningful to fight over. It's not a bad game, but I'm really hoping they can get some more PvP stuff in soon. There is a small zone that they've been working on since before release that will be a PvP zone, but it's unclear unclear how it will work (hopefully not like Wintergrasp) or when we'll see it.

I don't know how it is in any other guilds that Ravens have ended up with (and there weren't many Ravens joining Rift to start with), but many of our first wave of 50's seem to be taking a break right now. There's a big patch planned for next week that could improve a lot of things, but it isn't one to add much new content, so we'll have to see what happens.

So, if it were me, I'd hold off for the time being. However, maybe other people have different thoughts.

    Hi Ellyiana,

If you can buy a new game, and are looking for a few months to play until the new Star Wars MMORPG comes out, and are okay with very few to none of your old guildmates still playing then RIFT might be a fun thing to do for a couple of months.

I've been playing with WOV on Sunrest. Although I started the game when it was released, I seemed to be part of the 2nd wave of 50's in our guild. Right now, many of the 50s have either quit or are taking an indefinite break. So while this is demoralizing to me, I still play and have been playing with other people in the game.

There are some good points posted above about the game.

Well the game is not too bad. Pve wise there is a lot to do, but for pvp there is only 4 warfronts to play in.I like it so far but i am getting close to the bored stage with the game. Since i did not want to play on a open pvp server, i joined Vigilance[Kiamar and crew] over on Faeblight RP Server. I have fought some WoV last night in Black Garden WF. They have server blocks that have queue's together.

Hey Athelstaine, hope you've been well.

The major disappointment for rift for me was the almost complete lack of pvp aside from a few warfronts, one of which I cannot stand, along with the amazingly awful balance paired with savage nurfing.

Also been a month since my last post, and not alot of new content has been added, with the threat of a new 20 person raid zone in the next month, and fresh mage nurfs on test.

I would have to agree on holding off on buying rift for now, prehaps trying one of the free trials if you are really curious. Hopefully Old Republic will turn out to be decent, or at least slightly better than rift or aion, and you can move straight to that when it is released sometime later this year.

Quick update, rift is planning on new content: a new dungeon, a new pve zone, a new pvp zone and more ten man content. However, scheduled at three to six months, it just sounds like delayed don't go to old republic content.
