    Default GW2 or Prime BFD - 3 server/faction PvP.

Hello everyone, just curious if any old DAOC guilds are planning to play Guild Wars 2 or Prime battle for Dominus when they are released? Nordvegr guild is still mostly playing Rift, but will be jumping to one of those two games, both of which are using the 3 faction/server open world PvP that DAOC used.

Guild Wars 2 is similar to DAOC frontiers, with a separate open world PvP zone where 3 servers battle over 2 weeks for control/points by fighting for keeps, towers, etc. After 2 weeks the server that wins receives a realm wide bonus for everyone. There is a ranking system that will place you against comparable servers for the 2 week battles, and should create community and server cooperation.

Lots of info including a partial open world PvP map on our guild site - Guild Wars 2 info here.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Prime Battle for Dominus is a Sci-Fi 3 server faction game which primarily focuses on open world PvP. 3 Factions battle for control of 10 points which unlock a PvP dungeon called Dominus (IE: Darkness Falls). It's not as polished as many new mmo's but seems to have a solid mechanic and combat PvP system. The 3 factions are:

Rodan - Powerful, durable physical form, love of battle, Melee based like Midgard.
Salent - Highly intelligent, genetic manipulation of humans, Psionic based like Hibernia.
Humans - Cunning, Resourceful, Adapt quickly, balanced abilities like Albion.

Just keeping in touch to see if any old DAOC guilds are interested!

I'm definitely looking forward to GW2. I strongly agree with a lot of the things they are doing that are different from the current paradigm.

Prime is cool on paper (or LED, as it were), but it will all come down to execution and one has to be cautions around a new, unknown and/or low-budget developer, even if the individual employees are veterans.

It sounds like Prime will be released sometime around Q2 in May'ish of 2012. Guild Wars 2 still has no release date, but will probably be out sometime late in 2012. Our guild may jump to Prime then GW2.... or perhaps both as GW2 will have no monthly fee.

Either way we just want to stay in touch and get on servers with other DAOC vets.

I suspect it won't be later than H1 2012. It'll be 5 years in development in early 2012 - it was announced in March 2007 and they had started work earlier that year - and they've allowed play in reasonably significant, very polished swaths at the conventions. They've confirmed a small closed alpha and beta in 2011 which will determine when they have open beta/release. Note that they feel that players use betas as demos rather than to actually test the game for the developers, so I don't expect the closed one to be very large or long and the open one will probably effectively be a demo.

So the Salent get the huge advantage, eh?

Hmm yeah I think I see Ahm view here: Rodans- they look like monsters with huge weaponery, so I can see they love battles. Salent look like fiery human forms. So they will defenitly be intelligent. By the looks of it they will be using a huge advantage by burning everything up so we should have the Salent team up with Hibernia so they can burn up their forest:P Now the humans well they do look like robots to me. Do you feel that albions remind you of robots in some way?

Anyway now to be serious is what is the strategic plan in the world pvp of prime game? In Daoc you basically had to take certain keeps to open a relic keep to get a bonus of either power or strength for your realm.

Actually I got that from the website, but it seemed to fit the basic DAOC realm mold with a strong Melee based, Magic based and Mixed realm. It even has Director of Community, Sanya Weathers from DAOC working in the same position on Prime Battle For Dominus. Compared to many MMO's coming out the graphics are not the greatest, but I'm hearing very solid game and combat mechanics for PvP.

GW2 is the main one we're waiting for, but this may be an interesting diversion.

From what I've read, the end game involves a planet where three factions fight over 10 bases (aka: keeps) to gain control of The Mine of Dominus, a PvP dungeon (aka: Darkness Falls). So I'd imagine with 3 realms, any faction that controls 4 bases or more will gain entry to the Mines of Dominus for a specified time.
