    Default need tech help

    Ok...need some help here.

On my main computer that I had upgraded a few weeks ago (and successfully played WAR in beta on) that has been running stable crashed on me this morning while bringing up the server list. Game froze, got a blue screen and computer crashed. On reboot now my video isn't working.

My computer recognize the video card but gives me the following code:

The device cannot start (Code 10)

Talked to a tech from video card and they said try to update chipset. I flashed my bios to the newest version from mobo manufacture. No success. I cleared my CMOS. No success. Redownloaded latest video card drivers. No success. It see's it but can't start the video card.

    MoBo: ASRocks X48 Twinturbo Wifi
video card: BFGtech Geforce GTX 280 (non-overclocked)

    Any idea's?

I got my 2nd crap computer running WAR enough to make my characters and save my names but whole day wasted not able to play.

Yah been there. There is no "Assign IRQ to VGA" in my bios.

    Son of a...

Only other stuff I'm finding is re-seating the card in a new slot/pulling all other cards out first, then booting up to Windows from there.

Resetting BIOS to defaults or even seeing if there's an update available that you can flash.

Finally one person mentioned they had to format and start fresh. Not on launch day!

Wolvan I agree, try a different slot for the card. Try booting up and see what happens, then go back to the other slot and try again.

Are you overclocked? Not the vid card (you said no to that above) but other things? If so might wanna tweak things back.

Also should check your voltages, make sure they're not messed up -- could use BIOS but often that's not accurate, so if you can get into windows check it there.

And if you have a voltimeter you can check the power supply to verify that's not part of the problem, though I don't think it is.

Oh also -- you mentioned you upgraded a few weeks ago, what did you add to the system?

I've done just about everything listed, including talking to the BFG tech's a few times. I'm going to borrow a PCI express video card I had put in my motherinlaw's computer to test my system and verify its the video card that is bad. Thats what we are leaning towards. Luckily BFGtech is based like 45 minutes from where I live, so shipping on a RMA will be very fast.

I might be able to get on the other computer to level up some in the next few days while waiting for RMA etc. I did make and save my character names etc.

Update. After testing another video card and everything working fine (wee Geforce 7200 LE with 128 meg ram) BFGTech is RMAing my gtx280. I sent it in yesterday, they got it today and my new one has already been shipped back, so hopefully get tomorrow. Living 45 minutes from BFGTech is nice...cheap overnight ground shipping. heh.

so you burnt ur card out? coulda just been faulty, although always suspicious after new setup. as kestrel said double check ur voltages (if you haven't already) plausible mobo is actually the culprit here and fried ur card with a spike. also, newer gfx cards (and some chips) like to be energy hogs, make sure you've got a big enough power supply. gotta make sure the supply is a decent one that doesn't drop in effciency too much as load increases.

I upgraded my mobo, video card, ram and powersupply all at the same time. The video card ran for 3 weeks fine, but when I went to load up WAR 30 minutes before the headstart on sunday it froze up, blue screened and died. I have a 850 watt, certified to support Nvidia cards powersupply (its on the Nvidia list, a thermaltake toughpower) etc etc. But anyway, I'm getting a new video card anyway.
