Mini Rant on Info Available on Herald. . .

So we're at war, and we can't even talk with the enemy realm. So why the heck can they log onto the Herald and view every detail of my character? Equipment, resists, stats, etc.? IMO we should be figuring that stuff out about our enemies, it should not be handed to us on a silver platter.

And one of the cool things about DAOC was coming up with unusual (and successful) gear combinations that others didn't consider. Now all our trade secrets are displayed for the world to see.

I don't like it. . . I'm gonna mess around with my gear some to see if I can determine when the server is pulling that info. -- if it's just periodically throughout the day or at logon/logoff. If it's logon/logoff only, I'll be stripping naked every time I quit the game. But I doubt it's that simple . . .

Yeah I was never a fan of The Armory in WoW for the same reason. My gear is my own business.

Let me ask you guys this. Why does it matter? Does it really hurt your characters to have this info available for all to see? I mean seriously, tell me why. Come up with some clear cut reasons. Don't just say, "Oh you don't understand." Because I know some of the reasons you might give, I just don't think any of them are all that good. Tell me why this is wrong.

It really doesn't matter all that much. I'm not all in a tizzy over it. I just don't think it's anyone's business.

I know alot of guys that in WoW arena use to use a rogue with two screens and look up the other team and figure out who to go after first baset off gear and spec. But myself I don't care, my spec is a diffrent thing.

It's bad b/c:

1) Gives the enemy tactical info that they should have to learn for themselves. Lets them choose their tactics/attacks to focus on your weakness - for example, you're weak to a type of damage and they focus fire you with that damage type.

2) Same as #1, only they learn what equipment you're using. You find a good combo of equipment -- perhaps your tank train is running elemental damage weapons; perhaps you are using an oft-neglected artifact, to use DAOC terms. Whatever you're doing with your equipment to beat them, they'll know. . .

I'd love to know how to turn this feature off, if you can. . .

Use the /help in game for a list of the slash commands, I think.

The only thing I disliked about the Armory in WoW is how much drama and taunting occurred because I happened to log out in my PVE gear one day and made a post about something else I don't usually wear in a thread on the WoW forums.

I don't think gear will have as much of an impact on PVP performance in WAR, but it sure helps the epeen strokage on forums.
